the promised dream shenanigans

[ in elementary school dave hadn't quite hit his growth spurt, so he wasn't as tall. he was shorter but still as frecked and skinny. he didn't have the shades, and his eyes were hazel instead of red. he used to mess around a lot, and acted all around like a class clown off and on between trying to be a good student with varied results.

that was the age and personality he'd been at when he'd met kurt, on the playground so many years ago.

there's some kind of soccer game going on, but dave never bothered to learn or remember the rules. so: ]

D'you wanna go on the swings? [ it works as "hello" for a kid, although there's a pause after filled with haven't i asked this before? ]

[digthefuzz]

[Kurt himself is still pretty short and perhaps a bit less scrawny. His shaggy hair has been tamed and styled, and he's dressed very preppily. His attention is taken away by Dave's greeting and the odd sense of deja vu that comes with it. Sure, playing on the swings would be fun, but he's been told that he should be careful about who he hangs out with...]

U-um... That'd be fun, right?

[parodeity]

I bet I can go higher than you can?

[ it's the age-old childhood dare ]

[digthefuzz]

[Those are like magic words! Ones that make him forget his apprehensions for the moment.]

Okay, you're on! [With that, he starts to scurry towards the swings!]

[parodeity]

[ as a kid, dave was decent at putting other people at ease. he grins, hazel eyes bright, and races to the swings right after kurt.

he'll let kurt win, though.

(kurt actually wins the race but dave likes to believe he LET him do it) ]

[digthefuzz]

[And so the race is on! And as Kurt wins, he accompanies it with a dorky victory dance.]

Aw yeah! I win! I am the champion, my friend! [Still, he pauses to speak to Dave.] You did good though, man!

[parodeity]

I'll just have to win next time!

[ he pouts...before sitting down on a swing. ]

So what's your name, anyway?

[digthefuzz]

You'll have to try! [He says with a smug grin.

And then he adds:]

The name's Kurt. Kurt Wagner. [He puts emphasis on the last name, as if it's a badge of honor.]

[parodeity]

Dave Strider. [ dave...completely misses the emphasis on the last name, sorry kurt ]

[digthefuzz]

[Kurt was waiting expectantly! But, nothing. Well, sometimes he doesn't mind not being associated with a famous dad instantly.]

Oh. Um, good to meet you! Cool name, man!

Thanks. My family just moved here a little bit ago.

[ this maybe explains his southern drawl. ]

New in town, huh? [That explains that...] Where you from, dude?

Houston, Texas. What about you? Born here?

[digthefuzz]

Oh I heard of that place! Yep, I come from here. But my dad's German and a director!

Yeah? What movies has he made? [ dave perks up a little bit. ]
